“ALL CLEAR” GIVEN TO BRADLEY COUNTY RESIDENTS AFTER PLANT EXPLOSION

Normal activity has resumed in Charleston, Tennessee after an explosion occurred at a factory around 4:30 PM Thursday. The incident happened at the Wacker Polysilicon Plant and at the time authorities asked residents to take shelter and warned people not to enter the city. A little more than an hour later Bradley County EMA Officials called for the “all clear” sign and all roads were reopened except for Walker Blvd. A secondary leak was reported shortly after 7 PM. The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office released an official statement that said a mechanical failure triggered a plume of low-concentrated hydrochloric acid. Medical responders transported one person to the hospital. At this time, they cannot determine whether the patient’s injuries are related to the incident or a result of prior health issues. Another release says a firefighter was taken to Tennova due to heat exhaustion. They stated that seven people were also taken to the hospital in private vehicles. Plant officials say they will release a statement upon completion of a full investigation.
