BREAKING NEWS – REPORTED SHOOTING IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY ON INTERSTATE 40

  • BREAKING NEWS – There has been a reported shooting at a rest area in Cumberland County. Law enforcement and medical first responders went to a rest area at the 326 east bound mile marker of I-40. Initial reports indicate that one person was shot in the chest area. According to police, they got an unsubstantiated description of an alleged shooter described as an African American male standing 6 foot tall. However police learned that the only shooter was the victim himself. According to Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox, 39-year-old Chadwick Ellsworth Barnthouse of Virginia shot himself at the rest area. Barnthouse was airlifted to U.T. Medical in Knoxville for treatment of injuries sustained. Cox said there is no danger to the public. The incident is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
