BRUSH FIRES KEEPS CUMBERLAND COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS BUSY

Brush fires continue to keep firefighters in Cumberland County busy. Fire crews responded to numerous calls over the past two days as low humidity and dry conditions prevail on the plateau. Crews have put out fires at the 600th block of Dunbar Lane, Eroh Road, Perry Creek Drive and Forest Drive in the past 24 hours. The largest of the fires took place off of Orlie Young Road that saw one acre burned. Another fire was reported at the 11,000th block of Highway 68 where a ditch fire happened from a possible cigarette that was thrown out of a vehicle. Fire crews also responded to Genesis Road near the Cumberland/Morgan County line to battle a large fire early last night.

Despite a little rain that fell in Cumberland County yesterday, it did not help get the ground wet enough to help with the recent outbreaks of brush fires. The dry conditions will persist at least until Easter night when there is a 40 percent chance of rain in the area.

State forestry officials recommend that any outside burning not only has to have a permit to do so but must be manned at all times until the fire is completely out. The Cumberland County Fire Department as well as the Crossville Fire Department can and has been issuing citations for burning without a proper permit. To obtain a permit, call the fire department and notify them of where and when the fire will take place as well as what will be burned.

If you see someone intentionally set a fire, call 911.
