COOKEVILLE POLICE FIRST IN STATE TO CARRY EPI-PENS

Cookeville Police are the first law enforcement officers in the state to carry EpiPens, the medical injector used to help fight those people having severe allergic reactions. They are also only the second police force in the nation to carry the medication pens. A state law, passed in April 2016, authorizes certain people to stock epinephrine auto-injectors under certain guidelines, such as keeping them in locked containers and undergoing training every two years. Cookeville Police recently underwent such training. The news comes just weeks after a Cheatham County man died of a bee sting. Neither his family nor the responding deputies had an EpiPen to try and save him from his severe allergic reaction.
