CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL REVIEWS DOWNTOWN PARKING ASSESSMENT

The Crossville/Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce revealed its Downtown Parking Assessment to Crossville City Council members Tuesday night. The parking situation in the downtown area has always been problematic and for the last few months, the council has been looking at adjacent property that could be used to alleviate the problem. A total of 118 surveys were delivered, 59 of which were completed and returned for an effective response rate of 50%. The survey was very objective and asked such questions as “do you have vendor deliveries”, “describe the availability of parking to your vendors, customers and employees” and “are there any days of the week or hours in the day where parking is more of an issue for you”. For the most part, customer parking rated 75% from average to poor, with most of the problem taking place on the north-end of the city from the courthouse to Taylor Ave. The council has been looking at proposals for several new parking areas including areas around the depot, Chop Shop, old Dave’s Pawn Shop, Main St, Lantana Rd, the Lewis and Craven’s properties, and the old handle mill.
