CROSSVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGALLY KILLING BULL ELK

A Crossville man has pleaded guilty to the illegal shooting of a bull elk in October. 56-year-old Timothy C. Copeland appeared before a judge in Campbell County to answer for four charges including shooting from a public roadway, hunting from a motor vehicle, hunting in a closed area and illegally killing big game. Copeland’s name was drawn in this year’s elk hunt and was supposed to hunt in Elk Zone 5. However he killed the animal in Zone 2 which was in violation of his permit. During the kill analysis by TWRA agents, Copeland was unable to produce the proper GPS coordinates or identify where the kill was made. In a plea deal, Copeland must pay restitution of $9750 plus court costs. He has also had his hunting privileges revoked for one year and will not be allowed to participate in the TWRA elk hunt lottery for a period of 10 years.
