CROSSVILLE POLICE OFFICER RECOVERS HIS OWN STOLEN PROPERTY DURING INVESTIGATION

A Crossville Police officer who had filed his own vehicle break-in report, recovered part of his own stolen property during a recent investigation. Lt. Tim Vandever was at Upper Cumberland Used Car Sales investigating the report of a suspicious male suspect sitting in a vehicle in the car lot’s parking area. As the officer observed a white Mercury Sable that appeared empty, he then saw a male subject sit up from the front seat. The male suspect was identified as 38-year-old Michael Everitt Stottlemire, who had been involved in a previous auto-buglary investigation. Stottlemire appeared intoxicated and very jittery. As the suspect was placed in the custody of another officer, Lt. Vandever conducted a search of the vehicle and a search of the trunk revealed a pair of orange battery booster cables that Lt. Vandever had reported as stolen previously from his vehicle. Also, a computer check of the vehicle’s VIN number revealed that it was owned by a male subject from Sparta. Stottlemire was placed in custody and charged with public intoxication.
