CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEPUTIES CHARGE MAN WITH ASSAULT ALLEGEDLY INVOLVING REVOLVER

Cumberland County Deputies have charged a Sparta man after he allegedly assaulted a man with a revolver. According to reports, deputies were called to a Faith Lane home where 65-year-old Donnie Whittenburg and 67-year-old James Whittenburg had been arguing in a hay field. Donnie Whittenburg told deputies that he pulled a .32 caliber revolver and struck James twice on the ear. The silver revolver, which did have blood on it, was found lying in the driveway of the residence. Contact was then made with James Whittenburg, who exhibited a wound to his side and ear. He told deputies that he received the wound to his ear when he knocked the gun away from his head. James said that he recovered a small fragment of the shell from beside his ear. Donnie Whittenburg was taken into custody and charged with three counts of aggravated assault. The report failed to say whether or not James Whittenburg received treatment for his injuries.
