It’s no secret that Gov. Bill Haslam’s IMPACT Act, a recent bill passed by the General Assembly, will affect road and bridge projects across the state. Gary Drinnen of the Transportation Coalition of Tennessee was in Cumberland County Wednesday in reference to the county’s share of the money which will be collected by a state 6 cent gasoline tax hike over the next three years. The Tennessee Dept. of Transportation will invest nearly $116 million in 10 projects in the county with a total 15-year investment of $129, 389. That funding includes projects such as the widening of Highway 127 North to Fentress County, and the widening of Peavine Road. Both projects have long been on the drawing boards. The funding will also cover projects in Crossville, Pleasant Hill and Crab Orchard. County Road Superintendent Scott Blaylock said that the funding has “been a long time coming.” And that he is excited about the funding that “will open doors to better maintain the county’s 1100 miles of roadways.”
