FORMER THP TROOPER TO SUE CORECIVIC AFTER INMATE ATTACK
According to a report by the Tennessean, Nicholas Collins, a former Tennessee state trooper, is suing CoreCivic, the operator of Trousdale Turner Correctional Center, after being brutally attacked by his cellmate, Brian Gadbois, on March 28, 2024.
Collins, classified under protective custody, had warned prison staff about Gadbois’ threat, but no action was taken. After the attack, Collins was left unconscious, covered in blood, and did not receive medical attention for over three days. He required two surgeries, resulting in six metal plates in his face, and suffered ongoing infections and a lack of medication.
The lawsuit, filed in January 2025, accuses CoreCivic of negligence, citing severe understaffing and inadequate safety measures at Trousdale, Tennessee’s largest and most troubled prison. Collins seeks $1 million for pain, suffering, and medical costs, plus $2 million in punitive damages. CoreCivic declined to comment on the litigation, emphasizing inmate safety as a priority.
