GOV. HASLAM APPROVES OF PROPOSED TRANSPORTATION BILL CHANGES

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has given his approval to changes made in his transportation funding proposal by a Senate committee earlier this week. The Senate Transportation Committee changed the bill from a 7 cent gas tax hike to a 6 cents hike to be spread over three years. They also want a 10 cent diesel gas tax hike phased over the same time frame instead of a 12 cent hike. The committee has also proposed more of a cut on the state’s grocery tax and more tax relief for the elderly, veterans and the disabled. Haslam said that the changes will provide less revenue to begin the $10 billion excess in road and bridge projects, but he is willing to accept the changes.
