A North Carolina man was sentenced in Cumberland County Criminal Court yesterday for his role in an head-on vehicle accident on I-40 late last year. A truck driven by 47-year-old Steven Lynn Shults was heading the wrong way and struck a vehicle operated by 22-year-old Courtney D. Howe of Knoxville. Shults was later indicted for vehicular assault, DUI, reckless endangerment and possession of a handgun while under the influence. In court yesterday, Shults took a plea deal to only the vehicular-assault charge and received three years to serve. All other charged were dismissed.
