MCMINN COUNTY SHERIFF SAYS WILDFIRES WERE SET INTENTIONALLY

Brush fires continue to pose a huge problem for regional firefighters. Authorities in McMinn County say that three fires there were set intentionally. Sheriff Joe Guy posted a picture of a burn off County Road 5 on his Facebook page. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture says there are three fires burning in McMinn County. In total, the fires are contained to close to 25 acres. Arrests have been made in Monroe and Sequatchie Counties for arson. Many areas are under a Code Red Air Quality Alert because of the smoky atmospheric conditions. Army National Guard firefighters continue to fight fires in six states across the Southeast from the air and the ground. It has burned more than 80,000 acres so far. More than 50 Tennessee counties are under a burn ban right now. These wildfires have been burning for more than a week now.
