MORE INFORMATION RELEASED ON DEATH OF OVERTON COUNTY INMATE

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the cause of death of a female Overton County jail inmate. Officers found the body of 33-year-old Cheri Crabtree early yesterday morning (September 27, 2017) in the jail. TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland told 105.7 News yesterday that foul play isn’t suspected and they are awaiting autopsy results. TBI agents began investigating the death at the request of District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. General Dunaway told 105.7 News this afternoon (Thursday, September 28, 2017) that Crabtreee was found hanging inside her jail cell but the autopsy should reveal the exact cause of death. Dunaway added that it is his practice to have another law agency investigate a death of an inmate that takes place in the juridiction they pass away in. According to the Overton County courts, Crabtree was being held at the jail at the time of her death for a probation violation. Crabtree was charged in the past in criminal court for possession of a Schedule II drug charges. Overton County Sheriff John Garrett told 105.7 News today that Crabtrees death is tragic and his sympathy and condolences go out to her family.
