TENNESSEE ADDED TO LIST OF STATES AFFECTED BY SALMONELLA OUTBREAK

Tennessee has been added to the list of states affected by a salmonella outbreak linked to pre-cut melon. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recalling cut melon – watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew – from stores across the country, including Costco, Sprouts, Sprouts Farmers Market, Walmart, Walgreens and Whole Foods. The CDC is also recalling fruit salads containing the cut melons, and has cautioned retailers against selling or serving pre-cut melon products provided by Caito Foods Distribution, Gordon Food Service and SpartanNash Distribution.

From April 30 to May 28, the CDC says, 60 people have been sickened in the salmonella outbreak.

Contaminated melon products were sold by Sprouts Farmers Market locations in Middle Tennessee. They were also distributed in the following states: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio and South Dakota.
