TWRA CHARGES CROSSVILLE HUNTER WITH ILLEGAL SHOOTING OF BULL ELK
The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency says that a hunter from Crossville who was chosen in an elk hunt drawing earlier this year has been charged with an illegal kill. Officials say that 56-year-old Timothy C. Copeland was traveling in the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area Tuesday evening when he spotted a bull elk. According to the report, Copeland exited his vehicle and shot the animal from the roadway. The kill happened in Hunt Zone 2 while Copeland was drawn for Zone 5 which was one of four violations noted. The illegal kill was tracked by inaccurate GPS readings and Copeland’s rifle and the elk’s carcass were confiscated pending the investigation. Copeland could be fined around $8,000 as well as potentially losing his hunting privileges and his rifle.
