DRUG INVESTIGATION REVEALS LARGE SCALE PILL BUYING OPERATION IN ROANE COUNTY

A drug investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the 9th Judicial District Drug Task Force (DTF) led to the seizure of over 10,000 pills, 49 guns, tactical body armor, illegal steroids, a cash-counting machine and in excess of $38,000 in U.S. currency at a residence in Roane County Monday night (May 21, 2018). Agents from the TBI, DTF, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Postal Service executed a search warrant on the residence located on Lake Drive south of Kingston after two parcels were intercepted containing more than 5,000 pills. These packages were mailed from Canada to Kingston and were scheduled for delivery to the residence Monday. Agents executed a search warrant on the residence and found additional parcels containing prescription pills, as well as the cash and other items described above. No arrests have been made yet, as the investigation is still ongoing. The Kingston Police Department and Roane County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation. This new form of drug trafficking is just another consequence of the opioid epidemic that has devastated our communities. This is an epidemic that has plagued our country since the advent of prescription opioids in the 1990s that were marketed by some pharmaceutical companies and prescribed by some unscrupulous doctors and pill mills as a ‘non-addictive’ form of treatment of pain,” said District Attorney Russell Johnson.
