JET HAS EMERGENCY LANDING AT MCGHEE-TYSON DUE TO BOMB THREAT

An American Airlines jet had to make an emergency landing at McGhee-Tyson Airport Tuesday night after a bomb scare was reported. Flight personnel contacted the airport around 10 PM and asked for permission to land with emergency crews placed on standby. Officials said the plane was bound from Charlotte to Indianapolis when the airline received the bomb threat. After the plane landed and its passenger evacuated, a thorough search was made and no explosive device was found. The plane will be held over and will leave Wednesday with passengers spending the night in Knoxville hotels. Channel 8 News reports that a witness stated that two people were removed separate from the other passengers. Over a dozen law enforcement personnel, including the Knoxville Bomb Squad and bomb dogs, attended the scene. Photo courtesy of WVLT.
