MAN ACCOSTED BY “FAKE SHERIFF” IN LAKE TANSI BATHROOM

From the “Can’t Make This Stuff Up” Dept: Cumberland County Deputies were dispatched to Lake Tansi Beach for a man with a gun riding a motorized wheelchair. The suspect, 50-year-old Kenneth Wayne Spivey, was stopped by officers, and was told that the victim of the assault had the gun. Spivey was reportedly intoxicated. Later, the victim told them that while he was in the bathroom, Spivey entered and blocked the exit door. He had a plastic sheriff’s badge, plastic handcuffs and a real gun tucked into his belt and told the victim that he needed to see identification and placed his hand on the gun butt. As the victim removed his wallet, Spivey reached out for it with the victim grabbing his gun. He said that Spivey then fled the scene in the wheelchair. Spivey faces several charges including criminal impersonation.
