MAN CHARGED WITH EVADING ARREST AND CRIMINAL IMPERSONATION IN CROSSVILLE

A Gainsboro, Tennessee man attempted to evade arrest after a recent traffic stop in Crossville. According to the arresting officer’s report, a 2011 silver Ford Focus was observed traveling erratically along North Main Street. The officer saw the vehicle pull through two turnaround areas and noted that the driver had pulled alongside the roadway. The driver reportedly told the officer that he made a wrong turn as he was supposed to drop off his male passenger. The passenger appeared to be acting suspiciously and a check of his social security number revealed it to be that of a female from Shelby County. The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Robert Smith Jr, was handcuffed and as the officer was placing Smith in his squad car, the suspect attempted to flee into a nearby wooded thicket where he was tasered by the officer. A search of Smith’s backpack turned up two bags containing marijuana, and a computer check also revealed that Smith had an outstanding warrant in Putnam County. He was arrested and held for Putnam County Authorities. Smith was also charged with simple possession and criminal impersonation.
